Another reason to enjoy DC

Buddha Bar restaurants now serve also in DC.

I have no idea how good their food is but I can tell that they are really good at picking music.

Actually they got their fame by the lounge, chill-out type music they play. The first restaurant was in Paris I believe and once people start asking about the songs they play, they decided to produce and sell albums. They don't make their own music but play good music from different musicians. In some first albums the tracks would be grouped into 2 CDs by "Dinner" and "Drink" concepts. The first two albums are created by the owner of the restaurant and the rest is done by some other DJs, as far as I know.

I don't know the exact number but as of today they have released more than 10 albums I believe.

The website of the restaurant in DC is http://www.buddhabardc.com/
By going to the website you can listen some lounge music while browsing their menus.
According to first reviews that restaurant is not as good as other Buddha Bar restaurants but perhaps we gotta give some time.

Sparks

Last week I have discovered the band Sparks thanks to the following song:

They seem to be a pretty interesting band. According to the article http://www.laweekly.com/1998-11-12/music/shooting-off-sparks/2/ , they went back and forth between electronic music and pop-rock. The article is referring to 1970s and it seems that they had a pretty practical reason to go back to pop-rock.

"The sedan-size electronic instruments of the time prevented Sparks from touring, so they returned to a rock-band format "

Elvis of Baghdad

Hip hop is an interesting genre in many ways. Especially the people who make this kind of music have been interesting to me. The hip hop songs that I like tend to have nice, smooth and energetic background music. The reason to say this is the following song that I had discovered today: Mos Def - Auditorium (Feat. Slick Rick)

Towards the end of the song, starting at 3.30 to be exact, there is a tribute to the movie The Battle of Algiers. I have not seen the movie but it is supposed to be about the Algerian War against France, and I could find the part of the movie that is relevant for the song.

In the following video, it starts at 7.53 and basically the guy -who is also the main guy of the movie - is describing the card game, which used to be played on Istanbul streets as well. Actually I had seen people a couple of years ago playing that game on Barcelona streets and it was very funny to see that.

P.S. Referring to an Arab kid, the song ends with the line : "Now the kid considered like an Elvis of Baghdad"

Useful website

I came across this website which aims to collect/organize and share data about songs/singers/albums.

I'll edit this post as I figure out the details and the uses of the softwares they provide.

Remember, remember the sixth of November

6 Kasim 2002 ile ilgili bir suru espiri yapdi. Benim favorim ise su Mondragon'un fotografi ve ona yapilan ekleme;

Bu tur geyiklerin bu kadar on plana cikmasinin sebebi kalitesiz futbol hakkinda konusacak bir sey olmamasindan mi kaynaklaniyor acaba diye de dusunuyorum bazen.

A nice walk in LA

Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy" is considered to be one of the early examples of trip hop.

While surfing on the web, I came across to the video of the song, which goes back to 1991. During the video Shara Nelson who provides the vocals in the song walks and sings on the street. The video starts at S. New Hampshire Avenue and Shara walks thorough W Pico Blouvard. The video ends when she turns to Dewey Avenue.

I have checked the route that she followed from Google Maps and tried to point out the exact location, stores, buildings etc and I put together the snapshots from Google Maps and the video.

There is Norma's Beauty Salon on the corner of West Pico and Dewey. At the end of the video we can see the sign of the salon when she is turning to Dewey Avenue. I have taken the snapshots from the video and the Google Maps, and it was interesting to see that the Norma's Beauty Salon standing there after almost 20 years. And in the last picture we can see the church on South Berendo Street.

Watching the video and checking the streets from Google Maps was like following her while they were shooting the video.

If I happen to go to LA I will definitely walk through that route, most probably singing the song as far as I can remember.

PS: Massive Attack is from Bristol and one day I will definitely write about that awesome city.

What is love ?

Apparently there are people who don't know this piece. I believe it is from the movie A night at the Roxbury. The song belongs to Haddaway.

Unfortunately I haven't watched the movie. Please let me know if you have any idea about it.

If you are just interested in the song here is the fizy link: Haddaway - What is love

An underrated song

Fizy link : Hande Yener - Sefkat Gibi

Sound quality in fizy is much better but if you prefer some visuals here is the YouTube link:

PS: Is she still planning to have an album in English?
